News Update for the CLUB:
We have a lot of events on our upcoming calendar that we wanted to share with you all:
  1. It’s March!  If you haven’t paid you’re dues yet GET THEM IN!  Dues for this year are $55 for regular members and $35 for Seniors (70 or older).  If not paid this month you will be removed from our membership list and no longer considered to be a “member in good standing”.  The membership form with payment instructions can be found HERE.
  2. Reminder:  The Clubhouse and Shooters Shack doors were re-keyed at the beginning of this year.  You will need to turn your old key in to get a new one.  See CLUB President Richie Rice or Membership Chaiman Sperry Navone for a new key.  If you don’t have an old key to turn in, new keys will have a $5 deposit.
  3. The regular FLAT League shoots have come to an end and STR&G finished the season in a respectable fourth place out of 9 teams competing.  Next up is the FLAT League Shoot Off which is scheduled for Sunday, March 17th beginning at 8 AM, hosted this year by Sullivan Trail Rod & Gun Club.  There are 143 shooters qualified for this event, and we are expecting a big turnout and a very busy day.  We are going to need lots of help from our volunteers in scoring, pulling, loading houses, and in the kitchen preparing breakfast and lunch.  See you there!
  4. STR&G is pleased to host the upcoming Boy Scouts of America Big Horn District Camporee scheduled for May 17 thru 19 at our Club facilities and at the neighboring Whitetail Hunting Club facility.  Events this year include Rifle, Shotgun, Laser Pistol, BB Gun, Archery, Hover Archery, Tomahawk, Fly Tying and Fly Casting.  An event flyer can be seen HERE.  We will need lots of help from our volunteers that weekend, not only on the fields but also at the BBQ pit and in the kitchen.  See you there!
  5. Our Cameron Trap League is scheduled to begin on April 17 and run thru mid June, concluding with a steak & awards dinner on June 19.  This Wednesday league starts at 3 PM and runs until all shooters have finished.  Drinks, hot dogs, burgers and hot sausage will be available for purchase weekly.  Open shooting will also be allowed for both Trap and Skeet shooters during this time.  An event flyer can be seen HERE.
  6. Our Spring Skeet League is scheduled to begin on April 28 and run thru mid June concluding with a shoot off & awards on 6/23.  This Sunday morning league runs from 8 AM until 1 PM.  Open shooting will also be allowed during this time for both Trap and Skeet shooters.  An event flyer can be seen HERE.
  7. Our Rossi Skeet Shoot is scheduled to be held on June 28 thru 30.  This annual event draws in registered Skeet shooters from across the region.  More details will follow as that weekend’s activities are finalized.  Once again, we will need lots of help from our volunteers preparing for and running this event!

News Update for the Club:

OCTOBER

It was announced at the October monthly meeting that the Club has regained ATA registration for our Trap Fields.  This means that any ATA registered Trap shooters may have their league targets applied to their registered target tally.  To do so, simply pay an additional $7 per league to Mike Dipetta who will coordinate with the ATA.

NOVEMBER

At the Club’s November monthly meeting, the membership voted to raise the Regular dues from $50 to $55 beginning on January 1st, 2024.  Get next year’s dues paid before the end of 2023 and save $5!  Also, beginning January 1st, 2024 there will be a Senior dues rate of $35 annually for members 70 years of age or older.  We will no longer offer a “lifetime” membership, however, those already enjoying it will be grandfathered in.

The locksets to the Clubhouse & Shooters Shack will be re-keyed at year’s end 2023.  For those members requiring a new key, you may trade in your old key for a new one by contacting Club President Rich Rice.  If you do not have a key, you may contact Rich to acquire one for a deposit fee of $5.  The key remains the property of the Club, and must be returned for your deposit if you leave the Club.

DECEMBER

At the Club’s December monthly meeting, the membership voted to raise the cost of a round of 25 clay targets from $4 to $5 beginning on January 1st, 2024.

Also at this meeting, the membership voted to adopt the new Club Bylaws & Standard Operating Guidelines, effective January 1st, 2024.  This long-needed update brings our Club’s policies, rules & regulations up to date in modern, well organized documents. These documents can be found on the “Links & Documents” page on this web site.

Finally, the membership voted to re-elect incumbent Board of Directors members Mickey Beeman & Sperry Navone each to another two-year term beginning January 1st, 2024.  FYI, your current Club Officers are:

Our inaugural season hosting the Elmira School District “Express Team” in the NYSHSCTL on our Skeet & Trap fields has come to a successful close.  The Trap Team finished a respectable 3rd place in Conference #7.  The Skeet Team finished an outstanding 2nd in the State.  Skeet shooters Luke Stoner, Adam Rosekrans and Brandon Wood all placed in the Top 10 in the State.  Several of our shooters are now on their way to the New York State Tournament to be held in Cicero in late June.  Congratulations to all of our young shooters!

The new pistol range is now OPEN!  The range was completed on schedule and within budget.  This is an expansive pit-style range and is a great new shooting venue for our facility.  It is 75 yards long and has a 12′ high berm at the rear and an 8′ high berm along the road.  A new gong rack and three permanent target stands have been installed on the range.  The Club’s competition plate rack is now located at the end of the range for use by members at any time.  A 12″ gong has been located up on the hillside for an extra shooting challenge.  This range is for use with handguns and 22LR caliber rifles.

GREAT NEWS!  We have received approval from the NRA to run our Open Pistol Shoots as NRA Special Events!  Going forward, this will allow our out-of-state members to participate in our monthly pistol competitions with their own firearms within the requirements of NYS law.  Click HERE to access the paperwork.

The new Scorer’s Shacks have been completed and installed on Trap Fields 1 & 2.  These shacks will give some comfort to our scorers in cold weather, especially during the winter FLAT League.  The shacks are also secure, giving us a place to store the microphones when the fields are not in use.  Thanks to all those who helped make these buildings a reality!

HUNTING SEASON IS HERE!

Just a reminder:  If you are hunting on our Club grounds and expect to be out beyond the Rifle Range, place one of these orange targets on the Rifle Range shooting bench.  Likewise, if you are hunting in the area above the Pistol Range, there is a triangle on the side of the clubhouse that should be placed on the Pistol Range shooting bench.  THESE TRIANGLES ARE THERE FOR YOUR SAFETY!

IF YOU SEE THE TRIANGLE ON THE BENCH, ASSUME SOMEONE IS HUNTING IN THE WOODS AND DO NOT SHOOT ON THAT RANGE!

AND, IF YOU PUT THE TRIANGLE ON THE BENCH, PLEASE REMOVE IT WHEN YOU ARE DONE HUNTING!
